The Konder family has it's roots at the Mosel River (Rheinland-Pfalz, Palatine area, Germany). My grandfather, Markus Konder, told me that the name originates from the village named Cond at the Mosel; Conder means "a person from Cond". Adding "er" for tthe source of origin was very popluar in the past when family nasmes were not really established (compare names like Kissinger, Boehmer, Hollaender, Bonner etc.) Shifts from C to K and vice versa are pretty common in Germnan language, because both letters are pronounced the same way if they stand at the beginning of a word. Another theorie relates the name Konder to the village of Bekond, also at the Mosel River. The background would be more or less as above. Many Konders emigrated to the USA and Brasil between the 18th and 20th century.
